The bombing of the Hamburg office of the socialist weekly newspaper Unsere Zeit on 30 December 1970 marked the beginning of a series of far-right motivated attacks and death threats in Hamburg. A group calling itself Odal claimed responsibility.

The Odal Group attacked several offices of the DKP (German Communist Party) and ­terrorised a number of people, including the Jewish artist Arie Goral, with a series of threatening phone calls. In 1972, an arson attack on the Kunsthaus Hamburg, which was showing an exhibition of Arie Goral’s works, was thwarted. The subsequent investigation proved inconclusive
